Fysiotherapy project

In 2014, the first physiotherapists in Malawi graduated. Specializations can only be done in Kenya or South Africa. The profession of physiotherapy is therefore still not integrated. Many parents do not know what physiotherapists can do for their child, so children and young people with a disability do not receive the proper care. To further help children with disabilities in the clinic, students (Daniëlle, Anoeshka and Franciska) from the masters degree in child physiotherapy at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, will help us make physiotherapy in the clinic a reality.

They will commit themselves to this from 2018 – 2020. After these years, the (pediatric) physiotherapy will be continued in the clinic under the guidance of Daniëlle. In Malawi, many children with a disability are kept indoors, because they feel ashamed and there is little knowledge about treatment options. Physiotherapy is important to be able to give every child the opportunity to develop themselves, to be accepted in society and to get the best out of the future. Parents want the best for their child, but do not know where or who to turn to. In order to increase knowledge and to raise awareness for the clinic’s name regarding children with a disability, we provide information. The children will also be treated in this center.
